You may be wondering what country you should visit next for your Jewish tours. Here’s an idea, how about the beautiful sights of Asia? Cambodia, for example, is known for its rich history, tradition, and culture. The country itself is very well preserved, from ancient buildings, unique delicacies, and natural wonders that the ravages of time could not erase. Here are some places to go to in Cambodia: The Town of Ancient Wooden House Angkor Ban is a village in Batambang Province, one that survived the ransacking of the Khmer Rouge during the 1970’s. For this reason, Angkor Ban was nicknamed as the “Lucky Village”. It is most famous for its century-old authentic wooden houses that still stand and are still used until today. Silver Pagoda The Silver Pagoda, or Wat Ubaosoth Ratanaram in Khmer, is a vihara (Buddhist monastery) that houses many treasures such as gold and jeweled buddha, including the “Emerald Buddha of Cambodia”. It is referred to as the silver pagoda, because its floor is inlaid with 5,329 tiles of silver that overall weigh 5 tonnes. However, only a small area of these tiles are viewable for tourists and locals alike. Royal Palace The royal palace is the home of Cambodia's royal family. It has a long and complex history of building, demolishing, and rebuilding, until the former royal residence was replaced with the Khemarin palace. Though most of the surrounding areas are open to visitors, including the formal gardens that are riddled with Parisian-inspired paths, there are still places that are closed to visitors such as the living quarters of the royals. There are several entrances to the palace, each entrance serves a different purpose. One is the eastern Victory Gate, where only the royalties and VIPs are allowed to enter through it, leading directly to the Throne hall. Second is the northern gate, which is also called the funeral gate, since it is only used during the death of a royalty. The western gate is called the executing gate, and was used to escort criminals to be killed in front of the palace. Meanwhile, the southern gate is called the commoners entrance, and this is where visitors can access the Silver Pagoda.
There are a lot of places you can visit in Cambodia, and one easy way to gain access to these places is by going on a Kosher River Cruise. Not only does it save you time on planning things, it also lets you savor delicious Kosher food in Cambodia.
